North America itineraries: land in one city, fly home from another
Updated on
In short
United States, Canada and Mexico: long distances, national parks and big cities linked by roads, trains and domestic flights. Here you'll find 2 itineraries with stops, nights and transfers.
The airports best served from Europe are New York, Boston, Washington, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Miami; in Canada Toronto, Montréal and Vancouver; in Mexico Mexico City and Cancún. A typical West Coast open-jaw lands in San Francisco and flies home from Las Vegas or Los Angeles; on the East Coast you fly into Boston or New York and home from Washington.
For the parks of the Southwest the best months are generally spring and autumn: in summer the desert is very hot, and some mountain roads, like the one that crosses Yosemite, stay closed in winter and early spring. The East Coast cities are pleasant in May–June and September–October.
Two weeks is enough for one coast; to cross the country you need more days or a domestic flight. On the east coast the train links the cities well; in the west nearly everyone gets around by car. To enter the United States and Canada you need authorisations to apply for before you leave: check them on viaggiaresicuri.it.
